Electric co-ops are receiving $5 million from the U.S. Department of Energy to continue the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association’s work in developing sophisticated cybersecurity tools.
The funds come from the Electricity Subsector Industrial Control Systems Cybersecurity Initiative following the Biden administration’s 100-day action plan to secure the U.S. energy grid.
NRECA has partnered with the DOE on several cybersecurity projects and appreciates this funding that will help support the deployment of advanced technologies to stay ahead of cyberattacks. This includes support for Essence 2.0, a tool developed to instantly alert utilities of possible network intrusions.
