New records in power use in the United States were forecast in 2022 by the U.S. Energy Information Administration in its June Short-term Energy Outlook.
Power demand is projected to rise to 4,010 billion kilowatt-hours during this year and then climb to 4,019 billion kWh in 2023. Those numbers are up significantly from 3,930 billion kWh just last year in 2021.
Previously, the all-time high recorded was 4,003 billion kWh in 2018.
The largest growth is projected in the industry sector. Residential power use is expected to hold steady.
