The national trade association for Colorado’s 22 electric distribution cooperatives is among the 941 signers of a letter urging Congress to protect funding for LIHEAP in fiscal 2019.
“Sufficiently funded, LIHEAP serves a vital, lifesaving role, protecting millions from America’s cold winters and increasingly hot summers. Robust funding is necessary if LIHEAP is to continue to provide states and charities the resources to serve your most vulnerable constituents,” reads the letter to both the U.S. House and Senate committees overseeing the budget.
The Trump administration’s budget called for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program’s elimination. The National Rural Electric Cooperative Association joined trade associations, energy providers, charitable groups and others in signing the letter urging that funding for LIHEAP be a top priority.
