Beatty Canyon Ranch in Las Animas County was named the 2018 Colorado Leopold Conservation Award recipient.
The prestigious award recognizes extraordinary achievement in voluntary conservation and is presented annually by Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association, supplier to 18 of the state’s 22 electric cooperatives, and other ag-related organizations.
Beatty Canyon Ranch is owned and operated by Steve and Joy Wooten and Brady and Arin Burnham and has the fourth, fifth and sixth generations of family involved in day-to-day operations. The award and its $10,000 prize will be presented at the June 18 Colorado Cattlemen’s Association convention in Loveland.
This year’s other finalists were the Livingston Ranch near Stratton and the Stults Ranch near Wray.
The Leopold award is given in honor of renowned conservationist Aldo Leopold.
