Graff’s Turf Farms have become the experts is maintaining a green yard, whether you are a homeowner, a business owner or a sports stadium grounds keeper. And, to meet the increasing demand for their quality grasses, the Fort Morgan turf farm has grown from its original a 120 acres sod farm to a now 440 acres sod farm. On these eastern Colorado acres, Graff Turf FarmsGraff’s Turf Farms grows cultivates several types of grasses to serve the needs of all three sectors.

Those grasses are grown for specific uses. For the sports stadiums, the turf farm grows A-34 Sports Turf, Blue blue Rye, and GTF Shortcut/ Low Mow Blend.

Three varieties of Creeping Bent grass and GTF Kentucky Bluegrass Blend are used for sports related purposes:

    1. A-34 Sports Turf is a 100% percent prescription athletic turf that is up to 65% percent shade tolerant and is used primarily on existing A-34 sports fields.
    2. Blue Rye rye is known for holding up well to lower mowings and growing quickly to maintain good color, particularly a deep blue-green color.
    3. GTF Shortcut/Low Mow Blend consists of a four-way Kentucky Bluegrass Blend blend and it is used primarily for golf courses as it is grown and maintained at 5/8 inch” and is extremely tight-knit to handle heavy activity.

In addition, the following three varieties of creeping bent grass and GTF Kentucky Bluegrass Blend are used for sports related purposes.

Three types of Creeping Bent grass are available for sports field turf, each one offering its own benefits. The first type of Creeping Bent grass is the Dominant X-Treme, which, as the name suggests, is capable of withstanding extreme heat, cold, and humidity. For a golf course, this grass provides smooth, fast, putting surfaces at any height.

    1. Penn cross, the second type of Creeping Bent grass, has set the standard for bent grass since 1955 with its wide range of adaptability, rapid establishment, and medium green color.
    2. Creeping Bent grass T-1 offers quick recovery after tough sports play. With this grass, ball marks and divots heal rapidly and the color stays rich, making it serving as the number one darkest green bent grass in the world.
    3. GTF Kentucky Bluegrass Blend is the most widely used type of grass in Colorado for homes, businesses and sports uses. as iIt recovers fast from wear and tear, making it great for sports playability, and it has excellent winter hardiness and summer performance as well as early spring green- up, making it an excellent choice for homes and businesses.

Buffalo grass, Reveille Turf, and Tall Fescue are also used for both residential and commercial purposes.

    1. Buffalo grass uses 50% to 70% less water than traditional bluegrass and has a short growing season of three to four-4 months of green
    2. Reveille Turf uses 35 % to 40% less water than traditional bluegrass, greens up early in the spring, is very drought tolerant, and has the ability to repair itself.
    3. Tall Fescue uses 15% to 20% less water than traditional bluegrass and, like Reveille Turf, Tall Fescue experiences early spring green green-up and is very drought tolerant. In fact, Tall Fescue is the most affordable drought drought-tolerant turf grass.
