Johnny Cash (1932–2003) was an American singer-songwriter, guitarist, actor, and mostly remembered as a country music icon.
While in the hinterlands of Alaska, we had a celebrity encounter, and he never even knew. In 1984, while on a bush flight to Dillingham, Alaska, to do a self-supported, week-long float fishing trip for salmon, we were on the same plane with the “Man in Black,” Johnny Cash. He was also headed out for some sport fishing in a nearby area. We didn’t impose on him, but did snap a photo with him in the background.
