Throughout the last decade, San Isabel Electric has focused on hardening the electric grid by upgrading poles, wires, substations, and equipment to make sure our members can count on us for the electricity they need when they need it. Just as essential as poles and wires is the co-op’s digital infrastructure network. This invisible network keeps critical equipment secure, monitors the power grid, protects member data, ensures billing accuracy, and defends against cyber threats.
Protecting mission-critical systems and sensitive information is a top priority for SIEA. In 2025, we upgraded several systems to improve communication and control between devices in the field and devices lineworkers use to access the data. This gives crews the information they need to troubleshoot outages and perform system maintenance more efficiently.
New network technology provides significantly greater bandwidth than the old system. The increased bandwidth allows essential information to move more efficiently across locations and improves overall reliability and performance. The network also has modern security features that limit unauthorized access and help us proactively identify risks faster and before they become larger problems.
In addition to network improvements, we upgraded security to monitor offices, warehouses, and vehicle storage areas. These systems help secure our facilities, help staff investigate incidents, and improve the co-op’s situational awareness during storms and emergency events.
These digital infrastructure improvements play a critical role in ensuring the power SIEA members rely on for their daily lives is secure and protected.
