Lineworkers are wired to serve

It’s fitting that Colorado Lineworker Appreciation Day is in April — a time of year when powerful spring storms highlight the heroic efforts of the lineworkers who keep the lights on and our communities powered through blizzard conditions and gale force winds.

In our modern world, it is easy to forget that when the electricity goes out during severe weather events there is not a switch that we flip to get the lights back on — it is a dedicated lineworker braving the weather, working safely near high-voltage power lines to restore power.

Lineworkers are individuals who epitomize dedication to service in its purest form. Individuals who are wired to serve a greater good. Whether restoring power in severe weather, troubleshooting technical problems, or navigating treacherous heights, lineworkers demonstrate resilience and a quiet determination to keep our lights on, our homes comfortable, and our communities connected.

At Mountain View Electric Association, our dedicated team of lineworkers build and maintain more than 6,400 miles of energized line in a 5,000 square mile service territory. I have said this before, but it bears repeating: This is a big job — and one they do exceptionally well. MVEA is blessed to have an experienced team of true professionals keeping the lights on for those we serve. They deserve all the appreciation and accolades that come their way.

I also want to recognize the team of highly skilled professionals who work behind the scenes to ensure we provide safe, reliable, and affordable electric service to our members. Keeping employees safe is THE top priority at MVEA every single day. While we have built this priority into our strategic plan, it is the employees who give it life — they look out for one another and work together to create a culture of safety to prevent accidents and injuries. From dispatch operators who coordinate crews to engineers who help map the way to power restoration, when the lights go out, our teams step in.

This month, please join me in thanking the dedicated lineworkers who work tirelessly to ensure our community receives reliable power 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Visit the webpage or scan the QR code in the image below to send a thank you note to help us honor MVEA’s dedicated lineworkers.
