Mountain View Electric Association (MVEA) continues to prioritize reliability and service, guided by cooperative principles that distinguish it from investor-owned utilities. As one of Colorado’s fastest-growing co-ops, MVEA faces rising demand, increasing costs of materials, and nationwide shifts toward clean energy.
Tri-State Generation and Transmission, MVEA’s wholesale power supplier, announced a 7.5% rate increase beginning in 2026, driven by tariffs, regulatory pressures, and higher market prices. Since wholesale power represents 62% of MVEA’s operating expenses, this change directly impacts rates. To prepare, MVEA hired an independent rate consultant to perform a Cost-of-Service Study (COSS), helping ensure rates reflect true costs while maintaining fairness and long-term stability.
MVEA is exploring new rate structures that reward members who shift energy use to non-peak times, helping reduce overall wholesale power costs. The cooperative remains committed to transparency, innovation, and affordability, offering multiple energy-saving programs and rebates for members:
- On-Bill Repayment Program: Low-interest financing for energy-efficiency upgrades (no credit check required).
- Energy Efficiency Rebates: Rebates for smart thermostats, heat pumps, select appliances, EV chargers, and more.
