San Isabel Electric Feature Story

New Programs Can Help Members Save

San Isabel Electric Association is introducing three new programs designed to help members lower their electric bills by shifting energy use to lower-cost times of day.

To participate, members must enroll in the Off-Peak Plus Rate, which offers significantly lower electricity rates during off-peak hours — 20 hours a day Monday through Saturday, and all day Sunday.

The Off-Peak Plus Rate is best for members who can shift activities like charging electric vehicles, heating water, and running major appliances outside of on-peak hours.

These programs also benefit all members by helping reduce electricity demand during peak periods, which helps the co-op manage wholesale power costs and stabilize rates.

WHY PARTICIPATE?

  • Get access to 20 hours of significantly less expensive electricity per day, Monday–Saturday, and all day Sunday
  • Potential bill savings
  • Earn rebates and incentives
  • Reliable backup power during an outage
  • Help stabilize rates for the whole membership

YOUR HOUSEHOLD MAY BE A GOOD CANDIDATE IF YOU:

  • Can shift appliance use to off-peak hours
  • Charge an EV at home
  • Can avoid using electricity during on-peak hours

1. Smart Thermostat Pilot Program

Dial in savings on your electric bill.

San Isabel Electric is looking for 30 members to join the Shift to Save Smart Thermostat Pilot Program. Participants will receive a professionally installed smart thermostat at no cost plus a $25 annual participation reward.

Members who already own a smart thermostat, or purchase their own, can enroll and receive a $50 sign-up incentive along with the $25 annual reward.

When extreme weather or high electricity demand is expected, participants may receive requests to allow a temporary thermostat adjustment of a few degrees for no more than four hours. Members remain in control and can opt out or override adjustments at any time. Adjustment requests are limited to less than 20 per year.

Participants must also enroll in the Off-Peak Plus Rate for at least 12 months.

Interested? Contact SIEA at energyservices@siea.com or 719-647-6250. Pilot program participation is limited.

2. EV Charger Rebate Boost

Electric vehicle owners can save 75% or more if they charge at home rather than charging at a public DC fast charger. Having a charger at home is key to realizing potential financial savings with an EV.

The cost of installing a 240-volt, Level 2 EV charger at home is between $500-$3,000+ based on specific installation needs.

To help make Level 2 home charging more accessible for EV owners, SIEA is temporarily increasing rebate amounts for Level 2 chargers.

For a limited time, households earning between 80% and 150% of the area’s median income — which includes many middle-income families — can get up to $3,000 in rebates for Level 2 EV chargers. Most SIEA members fall within this range, and all members are eligible for additional rebates on Level 2 chargers.

Non-income qualified households can apply for a rebate up to $1,500 when they install an EV charger at home.

There are a few factors considered for EV charger rebate amounts. Depending on the type of charger, household income, and the complexity of the installation, rebates can reach up to 50% of the charger cost and installation fees.

Members must also enroll or be enrolled in the Off-Peak Plus Rate.

3. Get Backup Power While Getting Paid

The new battery energy storage program allows members to have backup power for their whole home and create their own rate stability.

Members enrolled in the program receive:

• A $30 monthly bill credit
• 20-hours of nearly half-price electricity during off-peak hours Monday – Saturday
• Nearly half-price electricity all day Sunday
• Reliable backup power in the event of an outage

Home batteries charge during low-demand hours. The battery kicks in during periods of high demand or during an outage. Batteries are compatible with or without solar up to a total battery and renewables combined installed capacity of 25 kilowatt hours.

Interested members must be enrolled in or sign up for the Off-Peak Plus Rate. However, if you cannot avoid using electricity between 5 and 9 p.m. Monday – Saturday, this program might not be a good fit for you.

Interested in this program? Call SIEA at 719-647-6250 or email energyservices@siea.com for more information and to enroll. Visit siea.com/shifttosave/#batterystorage to learn more.
